The Zeppelin airship LZ 129, with its length of 245 metres, was the largest airship ever built. It is the Hindenburg s tragic end which people remember most vividly, the moment the airship burst into flames when landing in Lakehurst after crossing the Atlantic in May, 1937. With the help of an amazing collection of photographs Barbara Waibel, director of the Zeppelin Archives in Friedrichshafen, portrays the history of the legendary airship LZ 129. Stage by stage she documents the construction of this majestic aircraft, as well as bringing back to life what it was like to travel in a flying hotel. This illustrated book gives the reader an overview of the history of the most famous airship of all time and takes not only technology enthusiasts on a journey back through time to the golden age of the giants of the sky.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. USS Akron (ZRS-4) was a helium-filled rigid airship of the United States Navy that was lost in a weather-related accident off the New Jersey coast early on April 4, 1933, killing 73 of the 76 crew and passengers on board. During its accident-prone 18-month term of service, the airship also served as a flying aircraft carrier for launching F9C "Sparrowhawk" biplanes. At 785 feet (239 m) long, 20 ft (6 m) shorter than the German commercial airship LZ 129 Hindenburg, the Akron and sister airship, the USS Macon (ZRS-5), were amongst the largest flying objects in the world. Although the Hindenburg was longer, it was filled with hydrogen, so the two airships still hold the world record for helium-filled airships.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Addison Bain is a retired NASA scientist and founding member of the National Hydrogen Association who is credited with postulating the Incendiary-Paint Theory, which posits that the Hindenburg disaster was caused by the electrical ignition of lacquer- and metal-based paints used on the outer hull of the airship. Thus Bain believes that the hydrogen in the airship had no part to play in the initiation of the disaster. This theory, which was proposed in 1997 and recently updated in his 2004 book, The Freedom Element: Living with Hydrogen, has been generally accepted by people interested in promoting hydrogen as a transportation fuel, and generally rejected by people involved with airships and their history.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In-Flight entertainment refers to the entertainment available to aircraft passengers during a flight. At first, IFE consisted of looking out the window. In 1936, the airship Hindenburg offered passengers a piano, lounge, dining room, smoking room, and bar during the 2-1/2 day flight between Europe and America. After the Second World War, IFE was delivered in the form of food and drink services, along with an occasional projector movie during lengthy flights. In 1985 the first personal audio player was offered to passengers, along with noise cancelling headphones in 1989.
